“of Hinnom” (Neh. 11:30)—גֵיא בֶן־הִנֹּם (ge’ ben hinnom) and גֵיא־הִנֹּם (ge’ hinnom) respectively. For the sake of simplicity I will use the term “Ge-hinnom” when referring to the Old Testament references and “Gehenna” for the New Testament references. The valley was located south, south-west of Jerusalem, and it adjoined the Kidron valley which lay to the south, southeast of the city. It is usually associated with today’s Wadi er-Rababi. The word Ge-hinnom occurs thirteen times in the Hebrew Bible.
